EuroCup Women
The EuroCup Women Preliminary Round wrapped up on Thursday, with Chevakata advancing to the Sixteenth-Finals as the top seed on a perfect 4-0 record.
The Russian side will now meet Lupa Promotion Zagreb from Croatia, the final team to slip into the last 32 of the competition without winning a game.
As many as six other teams - Athinaikos, Dynamo Moscow, BC Horizont, ESBVA Lille Metropole, Gran Canaria and Dynamo Kursk - also finished with perfect records.
Last year's winners Athinaikos will take on Romanian side SCM-CSS Craiova over two legs while Dynamo Moscow will face Hatis Yerevan from Armenia.
The sixteenth-finals feature teams from 19 countries with Russia still having all their five representatives in the competition.
The sixteenth-finals will be played over two legs with the higher seeded team starting away and hosting the second game.
The teams were ranked from one to 32 according their win-loss percentage and goal average.

De Young Cats, een verzameling van Belgische vrouwelijke baskettalenten, hebben Europees een zware nederlaag geleden.
De Young Cats, die voor deze wedstrijd twee keer hadden gewonnen en evenveel keer hadden verloren, ging vanavond met zware 79-43-cijfers onderuit bij het sterke Slovaakse Ruzomberok. Topscoorster bij de Young Cats was Meesseman met zeventien punten.
Ondanks deze nederlaag behoudt het jonge Belgische team wel alle kansen op kwalificatie voor de volgende ronde.

Op de vijfde speeldag in de Eurocup basketbal voor vrouwenteams hebben de Young Cats woensdag een zware 79-43 nederlaag geleden bij het Slovaakse Ruzomberok. Bij de rust stonden onze jonge landgenotes 33-20 in het krijt.
Het Portugese Coimbra en het Franse Villeneuve d'Ascq spelen woensdagavond de tweede wedstrijd in groep I. Na twee zeges en drie nederlagen zijn de Young Cats derde in hun groep. De eerste twee van elke groep en de acht beste derdes over de twaalf groepen plaatsen zich voor de zestiende finales.

Na de jonge leeuwen kwamen de jonge poezen. De Belgian Young Lions zijn talenten tot 23 jaar. Afgelopen zomer resulteerde dat in de D-League - de negen clubs uit eerste klasse laten hun beloftevolle jongeren een wedstrijd voor de eerste ploeg afwerken. De jonge basketbalmeiden vormen dan weer een team dat werd ingeschreven in de Eurocup, na de Euroleague de tweede Europese beker.
Nu zijn kampioen St.-Katelijne Waver en Namur Capitale zelf actief in de Eurocup, en kunnen ze dus geen talentjes afstaan. Waregem en Sprimont weigeren dan weer talenten vrij te geven. Pijnlijk, zeker in het geval van Waregem, met Daniel Goethals als coach. Dat is dezelfde bondscoach die afgelopen zomer met de -17-jarigen een vijfde stek op het WK veroverde.

A Commitment To Youth
The third Belgian side in the EuroCup Women goes by the name Lotto Young Cats.
This is an outfit that is definitely worth following because it is a selection of the most talented young players in Belgium.
Many teams from around Belgium sent their players to Lotto Young Cats.
The aim of the Lotto Young Cats project, which is being sponsored by the Belgian Olympic Committee, is to give international experience to the most talented young players.
It is a long-term project, one that looks ahead to the Olympic Games of 2016 in Rio de Janeiro.
"It's a unique experience for these young players," said Philip Mestdagh, the coach of Blue Cats Ieper - the actual leaders of the Belgian competition.
"The evaluation of the project is not based purely on the results, but on the individual development of each player."
"Most of the players, not everybody, are selected in the youth national teams," added Eddy Swaeb, the manager of the project.
"We have to congratulate all the coaches who have participated in the development of these young players.
"The enthusiasm of the group is unique and the experience for the future for each player is incredible."
The team has an average of 17.9 years of age and is built around the rising star of Belgium, Emma Meesseman.
She made an immediate impact on the EuroCup Women last week with 22 points and 10 rebounds against Olivais Coimbra in Portugal.
The Young Cats claimed an impressive 73-47 triumph.

After a terrific blowout success in Portugal on opening day last week, Lotto Young Cats headed into their home game against Ruzomberok full of confidence but the Slovak Republic team had far too much inside for the hosts.
In a real contrast of styles, the visitors muscled their way to a 69-62 success against the perimeter happy hosts with one of Europe's rising stars Klaudia Lukacovicova leading the way with 20 points and 7 rebounds.
"It was an extremely tough game," Ruzomberok coach Ivan Kurilla said.
"The team, which played in the Belgian national teams from 18 to 20 years and is accompanied by two experienced players, showed off a particularly aggressive basketball.
"Although the opponent in the end still got the lead, it was back in our hands in the final minutes."

Finally, Lotto Young Cats of Belgium romped to a convincing 73-45 success in Portugal against Olivais Coimbra. Rising Belgium star Emma Meesseman continued to enhance her growing reputation with sparkling double-double of 22 points and 10 rebounds, a feat also matched by Earnesia Williams of the losing team who had 21 points and 12 boards.
